In education faculty are types of research project, such as survey project, experimental project, quasi-experimental, and historical research project, there is need to know whether research hypothesis is required in the four types of research referred to above.
The research projects need to have an hypothesis, which must be associated with the analysis proposal, having defined a theoretical framework and identified the case study to be studied. The lack of Hypothesis compromises the investigation, as the analysis defined on the object of study may not exist and thus the research project is compromised.
Usualmente se habla de hipótesis de investigación cuando se trata de estudios cuantitativos y con al menos dos variables. Por ejemplo, si queremos saber cuántos estudiantes saben leer y escribir en inglés (como un censo), en ese caso no se hay hipótesis, la variable es una sola. Se hace la medición y después de eso sí podrían establecerse hipótesis para someterlas a prueba, por ejemplo, los estudiantes dominan mejor el inglés porque están mucho tiempo expuestos a contenidos en redes sociales que usan ese idioma.
En la investigación cualitativa, también se pueden hacer hipótesis, pero la lógica es distinta por su carácter inductivo que dará las luces a la investigación de acuerdo a lo que vaya emergiendo. Podemos partir de una suerte de presupuestos (para no llamarlos hipótesis) que probablemente iremos corroborando en el proceso heurístico y hermeneútico, pero los hallazgos son los aportes al conocimiento, que siempre será contingente.

The primary aim of a hypothesis is to predict the outcomes/findings, data, and conclusion of a research. It comes as a result of curiosity and intuition. When you write a hypothesis, you are trying to propose an educated guess, based on scientific evidences and prejudices, which are further proven or disproven through the scientific method. Therefore, in education, where researchers believe so much in questionnaires, data source that may be replete with a plethora of guesses, every research requires hypothesis to concretize the held propositions by proving or disproving.
No - it is possible for an educational study to simply collect data and then see what you find. However, this approach complicates choosing what data to collect, how to collect it and can be so wide ranging you are swamped with data, which may end up being irrelevant. During my Education degree we were asked to collect data about a scheme of work we were teaching in teams, over four weeks, then use that data to create a dissertation.
Having a hypothesis centres your questions, helps keep the project focused and allows others to understand what you are discovering. Whether your educational research looks at quantitative or qualitative data having a hypothesis to focus your efforts is time efficient. However, it means that you may well ignore something useful because the focus caused you to ignore it.
