Acetone can be dried with molecular-sieve pellets type 3A or 4A, or either with anhydrous CaSO4 (for 'Drierite' without indicator: 25 g/dm3; > 1 h) or K2CO3; decanted or filtered; and preferably distilled with a smaller quantity (< ½) of fresh desiccant. 'Drierite' seems the most recommended desiccant for acetone. Dry acetone is rather hygroscopic. Nearly anhydrous acetone (~ 0.05 wt% H2O) is commercially available.
