Actually most of the research articles are seen in which conventional method described, it means people generally choose this one while it takes more time
Perhaps it's the troubleshooting to find the optimum reaction conditions for the microwave, while literature already has a bountiful "index of recipe's" for conventional heating.
1) Special equipment for microwave treatment costs a lot of money and with domestic MW oven there's always a problem with correct temperature measurement. Actually most special MW systems have pyrometric temperature measurement system, which accuracy is also a very complicated subject.
2) Substances absorb microwaves differently. Sometimes it's an advantage to make something new, but in many cases it's just a drawback as temperature distribution is non uniform.
In summary, it's simplier to use conventional heating if you don't want to go deep into microwaves-matter interaction subject.
I guess there are many reasons, like:
1. Its not accessible to many research groups
2. Sometime, the products are unpredictable
3. For synthesizing crystalline material, its often yields better crystalline material using conventional synthesis rather than MW synthesis...
