Several research articles show the use of saturated salt solutions to maintain desired RH levels in a closed environment. My experimental set up involves a glass trough containing a saturated solution of magnesium nitrate ( dissolved 71g in 100 ml distilled water). I placed the trough of salt solution inside a glass desiccator and sealed around with tape. A RH sensor reads 80% RH although according to literature it should be in the range of 50-55% RH. Any thoughts on what I'm doing wrong? Would appreciate suggestions / tips on anyone who has tried something similar. Thank you.
Did you place the saturated magnesium nitrate solution directly into the desiccator, or were there moisture absorbing agents such as silica gel in the desiccator? I'm going to try it too, I was just wondering. If I get a good result, I'll let you know.
