A hot topic in the finance and investment sector is how the sustainability performance of a company can be assessed and taken into account when doing risk management and investment decisions.
There is steeply increasing pressure on society to transition towards sustainability, see for example the report by the IPCC that was just published. This transition will entail massive change in all sectors. Change that entails major uncertainty and challenges for companies. Companies that succeed in building capabilities for working with sustainability in a strategic way can benefit from opportunities on increasingly sustainability-driven markets. On the other hand, companies that are too passive in relation to sustainability will face risks such as tougher legislation, bad reputation, inability to attract employees, and decreasing demand from customers. Hence, investors must take the sustainability capabilities of a company into account when assessing the investment risk. However, many questions remain around how such an assessment should be done, how to measure sustainability capabilities, how to find comparable metrics for this that can be measured and reported, etc.

In finance, you need to use some data. Therefore, before you choose the topic, you need to check whether relevant data is available. I therefore suggest the opposite order: first check whether you have access to some financial databases, and only afterwards choose the topic.;
