The recycling topic in mobile phones is useless and very costly  due to several very clear points, the quick change of the mobile technologies, The Cheapness of even the new spare parts, the high costs of gathering the old parts. It is known that for the civilized countries it is better to get rid from the old equipment's (old mobiles even computers) by sending them to the middle east or Africa since the visible studies for such cases prove that its the best solution than recycling.

It is a nice topic and would like to add that this topic needs engineering management point of view mostly not only managerial. However, my advise or aim is that each mobile-phone producer will need to request recycling for its products, so governments need to force phone-companies to do/promote recycling their old-products. This aim and direction is new to governments and I think your thesis can start a new issue. If we look into Prof. El-Rabaie answer it is true as a business point of view, but not good for the community, so companies should be involved in the recycling for clean environment.
