I have adopted Grounded theory methodology for my research. During my study I was asked to write the upgrade document which is done by incorporating Literature Review. I have highlighted that although GT aske researcher to conduct the study without consulting the literature, some researchers argue it is a valid point in addition to the department request to include literature in the upgrade file. At that time “2016”, there were no studies in the area I am investigating which proofs research gap.
My question is:
now I’m at write up stage and found some studies which appear to discuss the same of what I’m doing. "How and where" can I incorporate this recently discussed literature in the thesis? I have a suggestion of write it in the conclusion chapter, but How? Or any other suggestion is highly appreciated.
Doddi - this is a 'contentious' issue. Personally, I don't think that you can approach any study without having at least 'skimmed' the literature. Who would go 'blind' into a study, in a topic area that they are interested in, not knowing anything about the current state of affairs?
The best place to locate the recent literature is in the discussion chapter. You can compare and contrast the recent literature against your current findings.
Yes, incorporate the information in the discussion, but also in the methodology
Have you considered adding a section entitled for example "Research state" or "Previous studies" at the beginning of your text? In this section you can describe research conducted before yours which are worth to be mentioned due to the context of your topic. Than in summary you may compare results of these research with your results to show what new have you found.
