Recently a colleague raised a question in RG on the latest number of global bats, as a follow-up question to it, is there any existing database or list of the estimated number of bat species per country? I tried to scan the web many times and no luck for a complete list. I know it's challenging to have the exact number as there are taxa that remains unresolved and estimate numbers will do and will be useful in the future updating. Some colleagues have already provided their country database on the former question. I will compile the numbers (separated by families, genera) in single excel sheet and will provide on this thread. The last official update of species for Costa Rica was in 2014 and 114 species were counted. However, it may be a little outdated because with genetic studies this number may increase in the coming years as cryptic species have been detected in several areas.

In the Canary Islands we have a total of seven bat species in the whole archipelago, and also one introduced by man, escaped from captivity (eradicated some years ago). Apart from this, at least one accidental, vagrant species has been recorded in our islands.
