Hello fellow Researcher,

I am a master student in biochemistry and i am currently constructing a STORM-Microscope as my Master Thesis. I have access to sufficient laser power using 647 and 488 nm laser. For dual-color measurements i would like to 532 nm due to the good blinking behavior of Alexa 532.

Since i am currently only a master student i have limited access to money (like basically everyone). I was browsing Amazon and Ebay and found a few cheap high power lasers used for light shows. The diameter of the laser is around 4 mm, Which aspects do one have to consider when i want to use a laser for micrsocopy? What makes the price difference between scientific diod laser and dios laser used for laser shows?

Thank you for your help.
