Amadeo is known as the coffee capital of the Philippines. Larry Ambion' article article highlights how the town's business and tourism, rather than its indigenous culture, drive the prominence of English in its signage (adverts, road signs, labels). Noticing a similar trend in an African author's writing, which moves away from African English and code-switching to reach a global audience, I discussed this on Reddit. The conversation led to a magazine (who is in touch with the author) sponsoring African literature students on a field trip to Amadeo, where they can experience and write about the town’s culture. Please let's converse and encourage such collaboration in this post.
