My personal studies are often related to learning and acquisition of these languages (especially English, where my Italian students struggle often with pronunciation/intonation/grammar constructions).
Quite often I compare the results in order to find a magic key to permit them to approach the language with pleasure and not as a fight.

your paper describes exactly what I think and some of the practises when I teach a foreign language. Both Italian and English are quite hostile when you compare any time you L1. For different reasons, mainly for pronunciation for English speakers and for grammar constructions and intonation for Italian speakers.
So, this is a constant struggle trying to compare and produce the two languages.

What I understand is that those migrants are beginners, so they they need to learn a language from the beginning. In this case, the use of TPR method by Krashen is very helpful since it allows learning in a stress free atmosphere and postponing any production till the learners become ready to speak . I hope this suggestion will be useful to you.
