I wish to develop a laboratory model, to demonstrate a single area Automatic Generation Control, using the synchronous generator in lab. A dc motor is coupled with the generator. Is it possible? Please suggest what things should I keep in mind before doing so.
I think, it will be equivalent to speed control of dc motor, depending on the frequency signal.
Another question is: How do I get the frequency signal from the synchronous generator?
hi. nice lab project. You can convert the line freq of generator in to proportional DC voltage using F to V Convertor transducer( e.g. 0-100Hz = 0-10 VDC ). then you can take the DCV as an i/p for analysing the speed & then accordingly regulate the DC motor's speed. Also you can add under speed & over speed protections to protect motor on instant loading & unloading.
