I always incorporated chess in my curriculum, (through Board Games) as it is a mindset that involves critical thinking and thus problem-solving skills, mathematical skills, and more. I play online and complete tactics and tournaments at https://www.chess.com/live.
There is an app for the telephone that makes keeping up one's skill easy. One can choose the time allotted for each game from 30 minutes to one-minute bullet, my favorite when I don't have much time.
As with any online website, one must exercise caution in becoming involved. Mostly, I choose not to chat or be social. I only want to keep up my skills. However, there is a lot of expert advice and tutoring/tactics, available through this website. I do not recommend signing on through Facebook, as some of the opponents names or comments are not rather appropriate for all audiences. That is where blocking out chat comes in and one makes his or her choice to participate.
There is a rising interest in introducing chess principles in education, police force, military training, management and business but it can be useful in emergency and trauma programs in medicine; where chess can simulate challenging situations and decision making.

It is an interesting book link you have shared... This question interested me as I am a good chess player with past competitive experience and still play online. I have also learned, practiced and taught management and systems science. I agree with Samy's link that chess can help strategic managers if they have it as a hobby. The other angle is that chess could also be used as a tool in actual courses but to a limited extent... Not all students know how to play or most cannot play well (as they have other interests), so the use of chess may be limited to several sessions, a few weeks, or the teachers perhaps could use puzzles or position analyses rather than whole games. The students can be divided into groups of two-three, and can analyze the puzzle or position together in teams. The puzzle would be something with multiple solutions, one solution based on safe exchanges & simplification, another one based on a sophisticated combination & careful calculation. Then they can draw a parallel between the puzzle and a real company case study, and think about which decision they might make. The students could also use SWOT analysis first on a chess position to learn the concepts, and then apply those concepts again on a company management case study. http://chessimprover.com/chess-and-management/
Anyway, I hope this question/forum continues so we can hear the thoughts of more people. Regards,
I think the same thing as you: "Chess is management." Both can be improved using a law of nature: the Universal Law of Organization, which governs all self-organizing, adaptive systems in Universe.

Two or three years ago, in Spain the introduction of the chess in the educational centers was debated. All political parties were in agreement, something strange in our country. However, nobody has returned to talk about this topic and the introduction into the educational curriculum is still pending.
Currently, I dedicate one hour to a math session to learn chess during this first trimester and the results are very good. I encourage all teachers to introduce chess into the curriculum.
