Many of the researchers are nowadays preferring open access journal option maybe due to quick review process, more chance to get more citations (though it heavily depends on research focus and the quality of course).

What are the pros and cons??
There are two different questions: (1) open access vs subscription, and (2) APC vs free publication. Both open access and subscription versions may charge a fee or may not. Open access often has a higher APC than the subscription version, but not always. There are subscription journals with a very high APC, and there are open-access journals without any APC. It depends on the financial model of the publisher. Some journals offer both options. Some researchers confuse open-access or APC with predatory journals.
