Which roles and job functions AI is efficient, impactful, and effective in?

Generative AI (Gen AI) is presently at a turning point. Since the introduction of ChatGPT in 2022, the initial optimism about AI's potential has waned, leading to a greater awareness of its limitations and associated costs. Thus, companies are increasingly looking towards proven results from Gen AI, rather than developing nascent prototypes, to gain a deeper understanding of how Gen AI works, in which areas it is more effective, and also about its limitations. It is not easy for companies to develop and adopt technology such as Gen AI, which is often expensive to develop, fallible and susceptible to potential misuse; consequently, because of Gen AI, regulators and policymakers must strike a balance between innovation and safety, while keeping pace with a rapidly evolving tech environment of Gen AI and AI in general.

Now, AI is not efficient, impactful, and effective in all roles and job functions. Increasingly, Organisations are discovering that AI enhances productivity for some tasks or employees while diminishing it for others. A junior analyst with repetitive tasks, for instance, might significantly increase their productive output by using an AI tool. In contrast, a more experienced senior-level manager might find it to be an impediment. Why? Because AI may lack the human ingenuity, creativity, and strategic moves that a senior manager can make.

I'm excited to share how I've been incorporating AI into my daily workflow to boost efficiency and manage my workload more effectively. It's been a game-changer! Specifically, I've found AI-powered tools are invaluable for summarising findings on a research topic on Google AI Overview, automatically summarizing lengthy reports, generating drafts of emails and social media content. This has allowed me to save significant time on administrative tasks and focus on more strategic and creative projects and endeavours. I'm also using AI to research and gather information for presentations, and analyze existing literature to conduct literature reviews. The ability to leverage AI's capabilities to automate repetitive tasks and provide data-driven insights is truly empowering. However, I still have to use my creativity and human ingenuity to develop strategic moves as a senior manager for the institution I lead and manage; sadly, AI cannot help me with those tasks.
