I'm meta-analyzing data sets. I must estimate variance of a set of data from median and range. What is the best one estimator?

I underline that the equation of Hozo et al (2005) does not provide a reliable value of the variance, as compared this value with the variance from other similar sets of data. This lead to misunderstanding results of meta-analysis.
