One case goes: A young student at Sheffield University, England "has an IQ of 126, has gained a first-class honors degree in mathematics, and is socially completely normal. And yet the boy has virtually no brain."

Mind & brain both have directly reaction .Mind works as our regular function of life both in our action & thinking part for which we carry out day to day our activities of our life .
Brain is a process of our intelligence ,memory ,which help us to improve our quality of our action of our life .It has been observed that the mind is all the time working for our activities of our life however if the individual is having a forgetful nature with less memory in such cases society look such person in a different average & dull manner .For this Mind & brain both are equally essential & fruitful .
This is my personal opinion
But in both cases, there is a brain and (hopefully) the whole brain, but it is compressed by the ventricular water. I had such a case in my job at a neuro-rehab centre. The brain was compressed at the skullinside, after operative implementation of a shunt, the hydrocephalus remitted by increasing neuropsychological functioning. After a while symptoms increased, MRT scans showed that too much water was transferd, the brain was compressed in the middle of the skull. After some seesaw, the correct adjustment was found. Although not normal, in the end, there was a brain.
Therefore, I would assume, there has to be a brain, and a non-visible brain (due to compression) on a MRT image ist not the same as having no brain at all. Interesting enough, with increasing compression of the patient from above she was able to describe increasing symptoms.
Although certain parts of the physical brain seem to control certain functions, there also seems to be a lot of plasticity, as well as functionality that is hard to identify completely with a particular area of brain tissue (memory, intuition). Also, there are numerous neurons in other parts of the body (stomach) that strongly effect mood, thought, etc. Add to this the implications of certain credible psi research and it becomes more and more plausible that mind can function beyond and possibly apart from the gray matter inside the skull.

so essentialy thei brain is not necessary at all

Thank you for your input. My humble opinion is that, brain is necessary for us to function in this world, but consciousness does not emerge out of brain. Brain is like (an old-styled) TV set; the TV set does not create the TV programs played on the TV screen. Rather, the TV set's antenna is receiving the TV signal, and then plays out the sitcoms, etc.
Here, the TV signal is like soul, and what's played on TV screen is like the content of consciousness.
