When we discuss chemical stability of MOFs then, most of the researchers report XRD of the MOFs after exposing the MOF to acidic or alkaline environment or solvents for 3 - 24 hrs. Is this enough to know the stability? Are there any other techniques for checking the stability?
You can use in-situ XRD to study the thermal stability of MOF. In this technique there is a provision of increasing the temperature of the sample while doing XRD. You can collect the XRD patterns at different temperatures and see how the XRD peaks are getting affected with increase in temperature.

Exposing the MOF to the acidic or alkaline environment or solvents for 3 - 24 h might be enough only if it reached the saturation level or equilibrium condition. Otherwise, the stability of the MOF might further deteriorate (structural change) beyond 24 h. Rather than solely following other researcher's specific situations, you can simulate your experimental condition depending on the targeted application areas of the MOF. The XRD is undoubtedly one of the best techniques for this purpose, but other methods involve FT-IR, UV-Vis, FESEM, TEM, NMR, XPS, and so on.
