My query is relevant to experts aware with Indian academia and publication system
I noticed that some journals mention on their website that they are UGC (University grants commission, India) approved. However when we browse the UGC care list ( https://ugccare.unipune.ac.in/apps1/home/index ). The name of this journal is not available, despite a very careful search.
Can someone please help me understand this duality??

First you check whether the journal is listed in Web of Science (UGC-CARE List Group II). If it is listed, no more questions, the journal is UGC approved. If the journal is not listed in WOS, then check whether it is in the Scopus source list. If you are able to find the journal’s title in Scopus, then you check whether, it has been shifted to the “List of journals removed from the Group II indexed in Scopus database”. If the journal passed this test, yes, your journal is UGC approved!
If the journal is not listed in either of these databases, the next option is to search its name in UGC-CARE List Group I. If you could not find the journal’s name in the list, whatever be the claim of the journal, you could conclude that the journal is not UGC approved!
Yes, every year. Now they make care list. If you want to publish please verify with the link below. Journals will tell they are UGC approved, but very few now get approval.

Yes. Recently UGC listed the approved journals. It's douy at appropriate time .
