Is this century going to witness the end of using the internal combustion engine in small cars?

Electric cars powered by lithium-ion batteries are now becoming popular. Electric only countries say that " New cars must be zero-emission free by 2050". Nowadays electrification has thrown the car industry into turmoil . The electrical car is claimed to be much simpler and have few parts with less expectancy to go wrong. Does that mean cars powered by internal combustion engines are going to fade out?
