A steel box column is filled with unreinforced concrete and subjected to a cyclic load. Due to the flange of the steel column, the effect of confinement in concrete is created.
In Abacus, the material of this concrete is introduced as CDP without considering the effects of confinement.
The surface-to-surface contact is used, and normal hard contact and tangential contact with the penalty method are considered.
The coefficient of friction is 0.6 between steel and concrete parts.
Is this assumption for modeling this concrete inside the column correct or should the concrete be defined as confined with CDP?
