Due to carbonaceous material possess high relative surface areas ,it's suitable to calculate surface area via adsorption of methylene blue . Please have a look at the below links:

The area occupied by each molecule can be calculated on the basis of the surface areas of the adsorbent. To answer your question, I would say yes it is possible to do this estimation. but BET would be more reliable than the reverse calculation base on dye adsorption.
MB Number and Iodine number are a good way to determine the surface area of carbon materials but still BET surface gives a much accurate idea about the surface area. Definetly there can a correlation between MB number and BET.
