Not sure what sort of catalyst you have in mind. Anyway, the base oil used in SBM / OBM can be extracted or the SBM / OBM itself can be re-cycle/re-use.
It depends on the composition of the OBM. However, since the mud have gone through the subsurface, or it may have been contaminated with some of the subsurface or in situ microorganisms which may poses the necessary additives of some chemical composition, there is a likelihood of the entrainment of catalyst that will assist you in your pyrolysis. I suggest you do some anays is on the composition of the OBM waste to determined it's content
Hi buddy. in my opinion you should talk about your project that what kind of catalyst do you need? You know Many types of drilling fluids are used for drilling for example oil base mud, water base mud and synthetic base mud. Barite and limestone are used to increase system density, and bentonite is the primary viscosifier in most oil-based systems. The emulsified water phase also contributes to fluid viscosity. Then I think if you want to use waste materials as a catalyst you should use barite, limestone or bentonite. But those are available and it's not cost effective for you to extract them from oil base mud.
