I'm trying to find out the physics how a fast and slow (separately) moving Hurricane/Tropical Cyclone/Typhoon influence storm surge generation. But so far I haven't found any detail explanation except some generalized statements.
Pure meteorology question....yes by analysing RADAR images...and to be more precise we can use sensors to know the actual physics

The answer is definitely yes. Storm surge dynamics is described by the system of partial differential equations governing conservation of momentum, mass, temperature, salinity, and density. Models based on such equations are commonly used for both storm surge research and forecasting. One of the specific implementations is described by Chen et al. (2013): An Unstructured Grid, Finite-Volume Coastal Ocean ModelFVCOM User Manual (available on the web).
Rego and Li (2009) report a thorough study that show the relationship between the forward speed of the hurricane and the storm surge. A copy of the paper is attached to my note.
It seems that the speed of the hurricane is a determining factor in formation of the storm surge. This fact can be confirmed by theoretical study with a simpler model based on shallow water equations.
Thank you Mr. Janusz Pudykiewicz. I've already gone through this paper. But the result showed for slow moving hurricanes is contradictory with other researchers who also numerically presented that storm surge height at inner bays increases with decreasing translation speed.
It is understandable faster storm would energize shelf wave and cause increased storm surge at open coast. However it is still not clear where impact of wave is limited such as at inner bays but peak surge height becomes greater as the forward speed decreases. Do you have any explanation in this regard?
