I am looking for a thermoplastic polymer which is stable in high temperatures up to 650 C. It should have a melting temperature greater than 400 C. It should solidify reasonably fast as the temperature decreases below its melting point. Also in its liquid state, it should not have great viscosity.
Some of the early work with poly(Aryl Ether Ketones) explored some variants of the traditional PEEK produced commercially today, and I've seen reports that come of these variants had melting temperatures in the range you're looking for. Maybe start by looking there. I never pursued it greatly but saw it mentioned briefly in a biomaterials review. polypyromellitimidines fit your high temperature requirement. They are organic solvent soluble too.
There are many such polymers, which are used to making the cooking and sintering and curing containers, that occurs at high temperatures of the range that require.
I think that Polyether sulfon (can be dissolved in some organic solvents such as DEMSO) and poly ether ether Keton (PEEK) does not effected by any solvent is an exmples
PES has the lower melting point than that of the material we need. PEEK is very expensive. As my candidates, LCP and PEI look interesting thermoplastics but the problem is that there are limited date on solidification behavior of these materials. I wonder if they solidify like metals?! Mean that passing the solidus temperature, their state changes from liquid to strong viscoelastic material or they may loose their shape or be damaged easily in the temperatures more than glass transition temperature. In my work, I want to blow the polymer and produce a single bubble like a tiny balloon and then load it in high temperature (App. 400 Celsius).
As i have seen, aromatic polyimide can be used in high temperature and Tg of aromatic polyimide are over than 300 degree C which depend on starting monomer.
For commercial, processable aromatic polyimides are trade name as ULTEM from GE, Torlon from Amoco, Avimid from Dupont, etc.
I think that it may use in high temperature.
I think there still is the polymers with high resistance temperature such as high curing thermosetting polymers reinforced with glass fiber.
