Error message when you try to install Office 2010: "Error 1920. Service 'Office Software Protection Platform' (osppsvc) failed to start.

Symptoms

When you try to install Microsoft Office 2010, you may receive the following error message: Error 1920. Service 'Office Software Protection Platform' (osppsvc) failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services.

Cause

This issue occurs when the Network Service account does not have the correct permissions on C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\OfficeSoftwareProtectionPlatform.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, you must give the Network Service account full control on the 'OfficeSoftwareProtectionPlatform' folder.

3. Try the install of Office 2010

For Windows 7

1. Click Start, click Search programs and files, type Run, and then press ENTER. 2. Type the following command line, and then press ENTER.

icacls "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\OfficeSoftwareProtectionPlatform" /grant "Network Service:F" /t

3. Try the install of Office 2010.
