I would like to make a simple weather map, using icons (sunny, cloudy, rainy, windy etc..) starting from the WRF output. Is it possible to convert the data contained in the file wrfout_d01.nc in graphic icons and plot them over a map? Is there some NCL scripts?

Yes, you can use weather icons on a map. For that you can use wmlabs ncl function
