I'm currently undertaking MPhil research which is limited to 1 year of study. I'm obligated to submit a timeframe in which data collection will be complete and analysis, thesis and submission and so forth.
However, the time that I have scheduled for data collection (now) isn't the best for my participants. They are in contractual negotiations and want to finish partnership arrangements before talking about them. Is there any research out there or references that cite this as being a limitation of masters/Mphil 1 year time restricted research?

Hi Daniel its not so much the University I'm just wondering say for research problem you have assigned 3 months to data collection - but say that your participants arent ready or could give much richer data in 6 months time - how as a researcher would you deal with it or would you list it as a limitation to the research? I was just wondering if there had been any research into this type of thing - its quite a unique project - a new theatre has been built with the support of many actors, however the results of those partnership negotiations are currently under wraps in the main part, its not that they dont want to speak to me they just cant because of confidentiality arrangements that are in place during this negotiation phase, which is unfortunately my data collection phase...
I think you need to address your research question as best you can with whatever constraints exist. I imagine some time constraints would mean the entire method would need to change. For example, I work in education. Suppose my job is to assess some new math (is it maths in NZ?) program and it runs from January to April, but the report is due in April. I would not be able to test the outcomes of this program for this report, so would need to alter the specific research question. This might be experimental studies on one component of the program (this more narrow focus would probably be my choice for an academic piece) or some form of literature review coupled with input from experts (this broader focus might be my choice for an interim report in workplace settings).
