Typically, experimentally obtained number-averaged degree of polymerization (DPn) and mass-averaged degree of polymerization (DPw) will be used to postulate a generic natural polymer distribution using a Gamma distribution function or the widely popular modified Gamma distribution known as Schulz-Zimm distribution for many polymer cases. However, both of these distributions are uni-modaled. Is it possible for a native cellulose to assume a bi-modal or even a multi-modal distribution provided that it still satisfies the experimentally obtained DPn, DPw and resulting polydispersity index?
