I don't think that exist this kind of platform even because if you need some biological sample you only need to write an email to the scientist which have the sample that you need . If it is something already published he/she can't refuse your request. if she/he has some cons you can propose a collaboration... I don't know if this is an useful answer at your question...
Sounds like a good idea to pursue! A web site in which each researcher that wants could say "ey people I have this material that I can share" and you could get in contact with him/her. If it does not exist maybe it is time to create it!
There are many commercial companies that will work with you to get the samples you want. Common samples from normal healthy blood donors are the easiest. You can obtain tissue samples as well.
I have used the company Serologicals to obtain specialty blood samples.
I used to work for Lonza, they can obtain tissue samples.
Many large teaching hospitals may also be able to help.
There is a lot of red tape to navigate. If you can collaborate with the right people it will be easier, especially if the sample you desire is more esoteric,
Origene sell both slides and plates with cDNA from various tissues in the human body "spotted" in a PCR plate, or also available on glass slides. Well worth checking out.
@Francesco, Eva, James & Gerard: Thanks a lot for your answers.
Actually, I am searching for a web or an informatic tool that would allows to enter biological samples and to explore entered samples by others organisations with a search engine as on www.assaydepot.com.
Origene website is great in term of samples search. Do you know how they source their samples ?
What I am searching for is the BlaBlaCar of biological samples...
They dont mention where they get them from but I imagine they have an arrangement with some sort of clinical facility. They provide some detailed information on the patient in regards health status etc but for full pathology etc they charge more. I was able to get H & E and diagnostic information for the Crohn's and Colitis plates.
Please never forget, that some ethical issues have to be considered, when working with human biomaterial. Patients (biomaterial donors) should be completely aware of the fate of their samples and commercialization is not ethical (to my opinion).
What I am searching for is a marketplace where clients could browse biological samples which could be sold, exchanged or just given for free according to the provider choice (which can be a biobank, a lab which have some interesting samples to share, etc.).
@J. Genius: I understand your opinion. My feeling is that expansion of knowledge using biological sample should comply with the regulatory requirements.
What you are looking for seems to be one of the holy grails in biobanking - several huge international research projects already try to achieve it; e.g. http://bbmri-eric.eu in Europe. And, as already mentioned above: to develop IT-tools and a web platforms is not the problem here, but rather the heterogeneity of procedures, organizations, structures, ethical issues, etc. of organizations and participating countries.
