I am working on riverfront development and in search of any statistical method which can be helpful to delineate the waterfront area in an urban area.
1. Obtain the 10 year flood level - stay out of this area
2. Obtain the 100 year flood level - urban outside this area is preferred
Anything from 1 to 2 will be flooded - regularly - anything below 1 is problem for all
That really depends on different criteria, for instance regional law, price of the land near river and etc. Based on the law of Iran, Nobody can occupy the 20 year floodplain and the 50 year floodplain can be occupied by ordinary infrastructures not the sensitive or important ones. All in all, local conditions define this boundary.
