Hello everyone. I want to test the validity of a Multiple Choice Questionnaires (MCQ) by using the Point Biserial Correlation. The problem is from some literature I found, there are assumption needed to be checked before using Point Biserial. For example the total score distribution should have some assumption like normal distribution, homoscedasticity, and linearity. Meanwhile the other literature just go straight to the Point Biserial calculations without checking the assumption. My question is which one is correct ? Is there any assumption on biserial point correlation for checking validity on Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ) ?
