the phases can be roughly divided into the following steps: requirement (e.g. large, fast, etc.) concept, functional design, structural design, aero test, full-scale physical decomposition, sourcing (parts, etc.), assembly planning and simulation, assembly of first article, skipping ahead to flight test, certification, (and parallel to all of these are financial considerations.) and full life-cyle analysis concluding with full scale breakdown and disposition (including, parts, material disposal, repurposing, etc.)
