I am wondering if there is a specific range for the percentage of moisture content of Saturated Surface Dry Sand (SSD)?
What I get from my SSD sand is 0.6% of moisture content. Is this percentage acceptable? I'm pretty sure my sand is in Saturated Surface Dry Sand state as only the surface collapse and part of the sand still remain cone shape after I conduct the sand absorption test.
SSD can vary from material to material. Some aggregates can have very high values of SSD (10%). I must emphasise that moisture content and SSD condition are two different states. Moisture content can change while SSD remains constant for a given type of aggregate. I can't comment on the value you got, but if you followed the correct procedure and repeated it several times, it should be okay.
This is achieved when all the pores are completely filled with water but no free water remains on the surface of the aggregate. This condition can be obtained by immersion in water for 24 hours following by drying of the surface with wet cloth. I agree with Mr. M Talha Junaid that It varies from material to material.

There is no specific range for the percentage of moisture content of (SSD) for different materials. It purely depends on the nature of material. As the name suggests, SSD condition is one where the surface of material (owing to the voids on surface) have just sufficient moisture so that the surface is in saturated condition but no moisture is available either for the chemical reaction purpose or for the workability purpose. This additional moisture over bone dry condition is called as water absorption. Water absorption values for different types of aggregates in India are:
CA FA
Basalt 1% - 2.5% 1.5% - 3.5%
Granite 0.1% - 0.5% 0.5% - 1%
Quartzite 0.1% - 0.5% 0.5% - 1%
Your values indicate little coarser sand with smooth textured particles.
As per ASTM C127/128 2.3% for fine aggregate and 2% for coarse aggregate respectively
