Depend on which carbon. Adsorption should be OK for an PG electrode. But if you take a GC electrode you'll likely have to modify it. Maybe a C12 thiol should work. The C12 chains adsorb very well on GC surface.

you can make an electrodeposition of a conducting polymer on carbon electrode with colloid of gold particles in solution, see article of HABELHAMES in synthetic metals, it' easy. good luck

you can disperse Au particles with PFSA, the suspension will adhere on carbon electrode easily. u also can find some articles about low PEMFc

Carbon electrodes are known to have oxygen containing functionalities and these functionalities can acts as binding sites and allow the colloidal gold particles to grow with out any external aid. so you can do simple drop casting of known amount of colloidal gold and dry it completely otherwise you dont have consistancy. please remember while asking anythings you please try give the perticular purpose where you are going to apply so it is preety good for us to give suggestions. If we coat in powdered form we cannot have uniform distribution of particles on the surface of carbon, in addition to this most of the purposes require finite thickness of the modifier layer on the suraface. this is not possible when we modify the suraface with powder but it can be easily achievable via drop casting because the nature of casting and the evoparation of solvent play very important role..

You can dip a porous carbon electrode in an aqueous solution of Chloroauric Acid (0.01%p/V), and then place this wet electrode on the boiling citrate solution (ca. 100 ºC). You will produce a colloidal gold "in situ" on the porous electrode using the Frens method.

There are innumerable techniques available in the literature. Mostly, E-beam, Solution based techniques are prominent. People have done extensive work on this subject. Also, Electro deposition of conducting materials on carbon electrodes and other important information is available and please refer following papers:

there are two ways; 1) -300mV chronoamperometric application in the solution for 5 min. 2) activation of carbon electrode at 1,75 V for 2 min. then dropped gold colloid solution on electrode surface and wain until dry you must purge nitrogen gas in gold solution in everytwo ways.
