Air travel is increasing year on year and with it the amount of cabin waste, in 2015 close to 4.5 million tons which is expected to double in the next 15 years. Today all waste, food and non food is either incinerated or placed in deep land fills. This includes unused water bottles and soft drink cans. Surveys have found that ca 25% of this waste is untouched food and drink.
My question therefore, what is the risk associated with recycling this wast and how does it compare with risk associated food transported in passengers' personal luggage.
Any ideas and suggestions are appreciated.
