There are many biological processes that have inspired the development of system hardware (DNA & Quantum Computer) and algorithms (Artificial Neural Networks etc.) in the domains of computing and engineering to engineer novel solutions for the creation of efficient and smarter systems....
Is there any investigative research being done where the occurrence of intelligence is explored with an aim to demonstrate the same in any one or more of nature's processes with an entirely new approach and inspiration?
We hear about human body and space being intelligent computational systems...We talk about Black Holes being intelligent systems that can inspire the building of hyper-computers at the edge of theoretical computer science...We talk of emergence and self organisation and about quantum phenomenon and its comparison with the structure and functioning of DNA etc. inspiring the creation of cutting edge computing paradigms and intelligent systems...
What are the developments and current research trends in the context of the above line of thinking, to advance Artificial Intelligence supported by a new Hardware/Substrate or/and from Software/Algorithms' point of view, in order to build the smartest computer ever seen?

When two human experts or human beings meet and exchange their ideas on a particular process/phenomenon/ observation etc..., they communicate with their natural language by referring to their mental frames which are the notions of cognitive picture in their mind. They are very vague when they do this. Despite these odds of vagueness and ambiguity, they do not face any problem in understanding the contexts and deep insights into the realm of the domain involved in communication. If neural networks map some functional transformation of inputs to outputs, fuzzy logic captures the human perception or approximate reasoning that is happening in our mundane lives. Therefore, I feel fuzzy logic is another paradigm.
