When we blended a semi-crystalline polymer as dispersed phase with an amorphous polymer as matrix, it is noted that the crystallinity of the dispersed phase decreases. This may be due to the non-participation of the smaller droplets in the global crystallization.
If a crystallizable polymer is highly dispersed into sub-micronic droplets within another non-nucleating polymer, some droplets are depleted from heterogeneous nucleating impurities and most of the polymer must crystallize via homogeneous nucleation. The so-called "droplet crystallization" phenomenon occurs at much lower temperature than that of the common heterogeneous nucleation.
