Arabidopsis is already a fast growing plant, so it is widely used as a model plant. Article attached shows that researchers were able to speed the growth of some plants (Wheat, Canola, etc.) to make them as the model Arabidopsis. This makes it possible to work directly on the plant of interest, the breeding time being no longer a brake.

Arabidopsis often not being the plant of interest in research, but rather the model, I advise you to start your research. Because in Arabidopsis it is the blue light receptors (chryptochromes) that play a role in the photoperiodic response vs the phytochromes B in the potato or the C in the wheat.

Thanks everyone for your replies. I totally understand that Arabidopsis is a fast growing species. For faster seed multiplication purposes, if we can manipulate lighting and temperature as they did in the speed breeding paper https://www.nature.com/articles/s41477-017-0083-8/figures/2 . It could reduce at-least a week for students.

I have a protocol just for you! Grow the seeds in 96-well plates, freeze off the roots, genotype, and then you can plant just the rare double or triple mutants.

Hey... you can reduce the night time to 6 or 4 hours, increase the day temperature to 24-25 degrees celsius, and check the results.
