Hi,

yes they are similar concepts. However the proper terms are: Master/Slaves and Farmer/Workers. Both refer to a model of parallelism in which the Master (or the Farmer) orchestrate the work to be done by Slaves (or Workers).

Usually the Master (Farmer) performs the initial calculations and then starts a loop in which the computational workload is assigned to the available Slaves (Workers).

As far I know there is no difference between them. I looked in the internet and I confirmed that master/slaves or manager/workers are the same type of paralelism.

I don't agree. Maybe it is domain specific how these terms are used. If I read Master/Worker then my understanding is that the master is just orchestrating and the workers are doing all the work. However, for a Master/Slave concept I would assume that the master might do work on its own. But maybe my understanding of Master/Slave is not how the term is usually used.

The terms master-slave and master-worker are the same, but the term farmer-worker has a slight different model. The difference between these two models is in the communication between the coordinator (master / farmer) and the workers. In the master-worker model, usually the master initiates the communication to the workers to distribute the work or request results. In the farmer-worker model, usually the worker initiates the communication to do a work request or to deliver results. In this model the coordinator only answer the requests and the workers can share part of their work to slower workers.
