I was reading about Empiricism & Experimentalism philosophies, which both are developed by John Dewey. Both philosophies have very similar ideas, and therefore, I wonder if they are the same and has two names?
Empiricism is a broader concept than experimentalism. Empiricism is defined as the theory that all knowledge is derived from sense-experience. Stimulated by the rise of experimental science, it developed in the 17th and 18th centuries, expounded in particular by John Locke, George Berkeley, and David Hume. Thus, empiricism includes anything learned by observation, whereas experimentalism requires the manipulation of variables. If you draw a Venn diagram, Empiricism is the larger area.
