In a nutshell, both are similar. Distance learning may employ e-learning or just deliver hard copy materials. While E-learning may also mean distance learning but everything is done through electronic technology (email, Moodle, etc.).
E-learning is considered the most important and newer than distance learning, and e-learning is providing training and educational programs through various electronic media, while distance learning is distinguished by not communicating directly with the authority or the academic institution and learners through traditional or modern media.
From my understanding, I believe e-learning is "basically" a learning that is being taught through the use of internet facilities and media, while distance learning is learning or educating one self on something but from a far off institution at ones comfort zone and this can only be made possible through the use of internet facilities and media as well.
Therefore I will say they are not the same. Though they seem similar.
Only Telework and mobile work are different in Germany. But e-learning and distance learning? --> have a look Article E-Learning, online learning, and distance learning environme...
Originally there was distance learning, carried out by letters in the snailmail and booklets sent in the mail. Assignments and answers were also done by mail. This was called learning by corresponding and there were correspondence institutes offering this type of learning. Later on there was distance learning by radio lessons and even later TV lessons. These days there is mainly distance education via electronic media. So yes there is a difference. Distance education means the learner and teacher are not physically present face to face and are not usually on a physical campus. Any media of communication may be used to achieve distance education. E-learning is when electronic means of communication are used to achieve distance education. This is how I see it.
Distance learning is different from E-learning in that distance learning is sometimes referred to as institution based learning where the students converge for learning during the school holidays whereas E-learning is learning online using modern technology like the internet and zoom.
Yolanda Ramírez Villacorta is correct. Distance learning is different from e-learning in that e-learning can be synchronous or asynchronous online in the virtual environment. Distance learning can take place physically in a specified location through the use of technology.
In e-learning we can sit at a computer in a coffee shop, library or home. In distance learning we go to a classroom that becomes a 'studio' that connects with other learners at a different site and the learning is always synchronous.
For a simple answer: E-learnig you can post a video, use a zoom meet, you can be on-line where you are and your student too, in the same time or not . Distance education its a education system , previosly make the content and help the student if they want or need.
e-Learning and distance education are different modes of education. e-Learning, or electronic learning, is technology-based instruction for a lesson, course, program, certificate, degree, etc. Distance education is instruction where students are physically separated from their instructors.
Distance learning means the student is studying from home or a location other than the campus. This type of learning was traditionally done by post where material was physically sent between student and institute and was/is therefore also known as correspondence school, studying by correspondence or taking a correspondence course. As technology advances this same distance learning can now include any method of communication possible, from a distance. e-learning on the other hand is specifically via the internet, using various technology, hence called electronic learning - e-learning. Today both types use similar mediums. Distance learning will usually mean you've enrolled at an accredited institute in another country, state or region and are studying towards an accredited qualification, certification or degree. With e-learning the provider could be next door or far away, everything is done via the internet. I believe the two will eventually melt into one where there will be no real distinction. But for example if you're studying distance and you get sent a book or cd in the post and/or you post/mail something back, that's not e-learning.
e-learning refers to learning and teaching that is delivered electronically i.e. learning through computers via the internet and various telecommunications means such as satellite and cable delivered as multimedia content. Distance learning on the other hand is where learners access a course from a far-off University or college via various means like CD/DVD-ROM, email, snail mail or links on the organisation’s website. Distance learning is a type of e-learning that may be synchronous (online) or asynchronous (projected from a computer storage component).
Both are different; e-learning involves in-person interaction between you and your students on a regular basis. This is because online learning is used as a blended learning technique along with other teaching strategies. On the other hand, distance learning includes no in-person interaction between teachers and learners. However, a teacher can likely rely on digital forms of communication such as messaging apps, video calls, discussion boards, and learning management system (LMS) etc.
The blog page 'What’s the Difference Between Online Learning and Distance Learning?', where 'online learning' and 'eLearning' are taken to be synonymous, has a lot to say in response to your query, Saef. Here is the link to the above page:

Every distance education is e-learning and vice versa is not correct, it can be e-learning, but it is simultaneous, i.e. within the classroom, and then this education is called combined learning ... Thank you ...
With my own learning into education, e-learning usually involves the use of a digital learning environment (DLE) and thusly can include either saved material or live discussions with lecturers and other students while a distance learing model is often a variation of the correspondance model.
elearning is learning using electronic media, both online and offline. but lately it is often associated with online definitions using LMS ... There is difference between e- learning and distance education. E-learning involves the use of electronics media or smart media to teach students. This can be done either in a classroom in the presence of teacher and students or can be done being present at their respective home with the use of electronics media.
In respect to distance learning, the direct classes are mostly done either on weekly or fortnightly basis for a specific period of time. This may be done offline or online. But there is very less possibility for the face to face contact of both students and teachers. Most of the things are done through assignments.
