I feel for teaching nothing like for a good teacher who use his knowledge. May use ppt for pictures and big equations, but teach on the board. For presentation in seminar and conference, you can not be a teacher but a communicator who has to deliver in a limited time his work.

For presentation in Conference, Seminars and Meetings, no doubt power point presentation is the best option and definitely ppt have some advantages....but in terms of teaching White-Board teaching is the best because it connect the the students and teacher directly, through this students are more attentive towards teaching-learning.......some times may use ppt in lectures

Yes, sure. The use of power point presentation impacts positively students' attention, enthusiasm, motivation, understanding and engagement. Using it in complimentary manner with traditional role of the teacher ,using the board ,will affect on students' attitudes towards learning. I don't recommend to use it all the lecture time. It may be used only to clarify certain points.

Is the power-point presentations really more efficient than traditional blackboard use?

Generally yes but I still find traditional blackboard or whiteboard (with marker) still have its strengths especially during brainstorming of ideas or developing new ideas among two or few people. Reason being fresh ideas / designs can be penned down / communicated faster using whiteboarding vs PowerPoint.

Yes it is. However there are newer software for presentation such as PREZI.

There are some realities who hide behind very beautiful slides, images that move, photos of the latest discoveries, etc ... The student looks open-mouthed, without positive and constructive interaction, he leaves the center of the operation and the educational process, ...

When you ask the student what he received at the end of the session, he will answer I do not remember the elements of the lesson, but the presentation is magical and extra, the Prof. is a great genius!

Nope. PowerPoint slides presentation can't reach the traditional blackboard in terms of pedagogical achievements. In blackboard, a student gets enough time to absorb the concept and memorize it while in PowerPoint, slides are so fast that it's really hard to catch up especially for the slow learners.

I do prefer the traditional blackboard for teaching for the same reasons mentioned above in previous answers. Nevertheless, the quality center at every single institution recommends using modern teaching methods, and powerpoint presentation is one of one!!!

I prefer blackboard for teaching . In my view power point cannot replace blackboard teaching however it could be an additional add on.

Technical scientific part can be easily presented and make it understoodable to students.. which requires more drammatic figure..

But for theory part . Students feel easier to understand with traditional part. All this is due to more contact time.

It depends totally upon the presentor, but I prefer white board to power point. Students can get enough time to grasp the concept as well as follow stepwise procedure for solving the problem. However, if descriptions can be made better using graphics and animations power point presention might be benificial.

it depends on the nature of teaching or subject. For example to teach mathematics course or to explain any numerical problem, solving on board will be more effective than showing the steps on the slides. At the other side if you are demonstrating the results of any survey then slides will give more impact rather then writing the figures on the board.

As a conclusion the mix -up of both the medium will make the presentation complete, effective and readily acceptable by the audience

yes and no both. yes if the presenter is interactive one rather than a mr. slide show. if properly used, it enhances picture based memory in students which is long lasting. for formula derivations , traditional method is good .

It depends on the nature of subject and I prefer to blackboard for teaching.

Power point (PPT) and blackboard both are medium of delivery.More important is how the medium is used. PPT has more potential than black board. It can be re-usable,more innovative, online based and enhance engagement.

I feel "OLD IS GOLD" but at the same time this 21st century required some basic ICT based teaching learning process.

When I was a student, the everyday teaching method was a lecture type of teaching. (I am talking about the 2003s, from a point of view of a primary school child in Ramanathapuran, Tamilnadu, Indian). We, as students, didn't know that any other form of teaching even existed. We knew that we had to be quiet, listen to whatever our teacher was trying to explain and sit as still as possible. And except for the listening, other very common activity during our was writing, mostly copying. That time every day teaching learning process are,

1. Listen to the teacher

2. Look at the board

3. Copy from the board and write in your notebook

4. Look at the board again

5. Copy from the board

6. Do some exercises in your book / workbook

7. Check the exercises with your teacher

8. The teacher gives you homework

9. The lesson is over!!!

I understand what you want to say and point out the new features provided by Power Point.

However, I often see that students during the Power Point presentation do not at all suffer what the teacher is talking about or viewing the presentation.

More intriguing are Facebook or Instagram and so on.

During the class they do not learn anything.

If we remember that the base of learning is repetition, then even copying from the board can give a better result than playing with the phone.

I fully agree. There is no better way than teacher using white board. One can use power point for showing data,tables,graphics and figure etc.

But then overall trend is different from what I advocate.

Blackboard teaching is much better, as students get more time to get subject.

Some important points are missed in PowerPoint teaching and students are not comfortable.

I asked my M. Sc. students after PowerPoint class, they preferred blackboard teaching.
