Im working on the final edits of my paper on Polish forms of address in heritage speakers. In the beginning of the paper I compare the two systems by stating:

"Unlike English, which has lost its formal pronoun, Polish uses two modes of addressing people, formal and informal."

I know that "you" use to be a formal pronoun in English but it replaced the former informal pronoun. Can I use the statement as the one above?
