The Angular Gyrus Model of Consciousness places the experiential image in the Angular Gyrus, but perhaps this is premature. It is possible that the Angular Gyrus is too early in the integration process, and the point of intersection between the integration process, and the experiential image is later in the integration process, and therefore deeper into the temporal lobe. What is your opinion on this?
What was the name of that musician that can never remember playing the piano? Didn't he have an injury deeper in the temporal lobe?
The most detailed information I could gather explains that Clive suffered extraordinary damage to various areas of his brain:
Limbic System:
1.The left hippocampus was completely destroyed
2.Parts of the right hippocampus were destroyed
Cerebral Cortex:
1.Some of the left temporal lobe was damaged
2.Some of the frontal lobe was destroyed (parts of the "inferior frontal lobe")
Yet, “despite being acknowledged by doctors as having one of the most severe cases of amnesia ever, BBC reported in 2011 (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-15791973 ), his musical ability and much of his musical memory was intact. Now aged 73, he is still able to read music and play the piano…” and a scientist to suggest that “musical memory seems to be stored independently of the medial temporal lobes”.
Too much damage to be a useful model for my research then. Although the differences between him and H.M. are instructive.
