Research Gate should block repeated requests for free downloads of copyrighted material, once the Author has declined to give away his/her work for free.
All of my books are copyright, I worked unpaid for years to write them, and people should legally purchase them if they wish to make use of them.
Research Gate is encouraging people to think they can obtain my work without paying anything to the author or publisher. There are Pirate sites that make that easy for those with no morals. Research Gate - are you facilitating that?
I think you misunderstood the purpose of RG. You upload and share your research to a quite restricted public - only for other researchers who will be able to evaluate and appreciate the results of your work.

No, I don't think so, every author who has published is given the right to share his peer reviewed paper within a group he or she belongs. Also before you upload any paper, there is a clause which you tick as to whether there are no copyright issues so i don't think its a pirate site.

I'm fine with providing my old AIAA papers and such, but I am sick and tired of people asking for free downloads of my textbook and other copyright books. RG does not allow an author to indicate "NO" once and for all, for a specific title.
I will withdraw from RG if that is not provided in the very near future.
A technical solution would be if you upload an abstract, or sleeve cover, as full text. Then the "Request Full-text" option will disappear. -It's not a proper solution, but at least you won't get the flood of one-click requests.
