Tapioca starch can be used in foam preparation if a biomass-based foam is desired. It may be crosslinked with the targeted polymer(s) by hot press molding. The finished product has to be studied with respect to morphology, density, mechanical properties and water absorption.
I honestly did not carry out research in this field but I was invited to examine MSc students who did research in a closer area few years ago so I read about this foam building process. Mind you, an unsuccessful research will glue a polymer with starch instead of foaming the polymer!
Thanks Nizar for your answer. It's not easy work with starch in polymer foams.
I did my question because I want more information about the advances of "Cassava starch based materials for agronomic applications" project that I found in Research Gate. I work in development of a cassava starch foam for cushioning applications.
