Is micro rain radar still state-of-the-art piece of equipment?

Being a hydrologist and not a meteorologist, but with an interest in hydrometeorology, I wonder whether any new reasonably priced technologies (less than 50k EUR) superseded the application possibilities of a micro rain radar such as Metek MRR-2 or MRR Pro.

We are frequently using laser disdrometers (Parsivel2 and Thiess Clima) and would like to see a bit more into the sky to classify different types of rainfall events, i.e. using additional data.
