My question stems from the realization that I see very few researchers using LinkedIn and I am wondering what are the reasons. Do you feel you don't need to use LinkedIn or is there any other reason behind the distinct lack of researchers on the platform?

We cannot say that LinkedIn is useless for researchers. I think however that Linkelin , Facebook, and the like are more social than scientific networks. I do not use Linkledin nor do I use Facebook for scientific exchanges. Research Gate for example is a more appropriate scientific forum.

I do not use it personally, I do not see it very interactive, it seems more informative
Personally, I feel that the lack of social media usage by researchers is detrimental as it contributes to keeping research in a bubble. Moreover, not all researchers will be working all their life in research and it seems to me it would be useful to create an online presence outside of research circles. But it's interesting to see your reasons, thanks for contributing.
