Is it reasonable for a university to ask its researchers to pay "a portion" of their salary to fund the researcher's own research projects? Why or why not? If the research is successful as a researcher, the university would pay the fund back to the researcher?

it is the opposite that must happen

the university must honor the hard-working researchers and encourage them with more funds.

the industry has millions of dollars to spend on finding solutions to their problems, and if the university does not have sufficient funds it is because it has not made the effort to gain the trust of industry
